The Sun
Or don’t look directly into the sun either for that matter. It’s not good for your eyes. Even though the sun is on average around 150 million kilometers from your eyeball, it still packs a powerful punch. But you know this, don’t you? But just in case you don’t and you are tempted to look at the sun, the RTE 1 news today reminded those who are expecting the sun to dance in the sky at a religious shrine in Mayo to not look directly into the sun. Recently a visionary predicted that Mary, the mother of Jesus (the well known religious figure) would appear in a town called Knock. Some people, thousands in fact, turned up to see the vision and some of them stared at the sun. One reported that it began to dance in the sky and then a black halo was visible around the nearest star to Earth, the thing that gives us life and that we know as ‘the Sun’ or ‘Sol’. A local doctor informed the news presenter that this description is consistent with sun damage to the retina of the eye. So the lesson is, if you are looking for divine guidance, it’s best not to stare at the sun to find it.
